The Ducks are keeping coach Dallas Eakins, picking up his contract option
The Ducks are picking up Eakins' contract option for the 2022-23 season, new general manager Pat Verbeek announced Tuesday.
Eakins, 56, is 52-53-13 in two seasons with the Ducks. He led the team to a 31-37-14 record and a sixth-place finish in the Pacific Division this past season.
Before joining the Ducks, Eakins was the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers for parts of three seasons. He was fired in December 2018 with a record of 74-91-25.
Eakins has also coached in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
The Ducks are hoping that Eakins can help them improve on their disappointing 2021-22 season. The team has not made the playoffs since 2018.
